What is an Infrared Sauna?
Traditional saunas work by heating the air to relax and relieve sore muscles. While this is great for some, it can get a little much for others to bear. Infrared saunas work differently in that they use strategically positioned infrared lamps. These lamps warm the body directly through the application of electromagnetic radiation. The process penetrates the tissues more efficiently, providing all the benefits at a more comfortable temperature.
A traditional sauna reaches temperatures between 65 and 80oC. By comparison, an infrared sauna reaches temperatures that range between 45 and 60oC. With an infrared sauna, around 80% of the heat penetrates the body with around 20% being lost to the air. The effect increases your core temperature, allowing for a deeper sweat at a lower, more tolerable temperature.
